Suicide due to bullying: National, State, or Local Problem?
I feel strongly about suicide because it has occurred to people I know. I have heard disturbing stories by kids I know of people who killed themselves because they were constantly bullied. One person who recently committed suicide that some of my friends knew was named Amanda. She committed suicide due to years of constant bullying. How many times do you hear on the news of suicide or self harm? Quite often. It is sad when people have a mental condition, emotional condition, or any other problem and are bullied because of it. Even more sad when they get tired of it and commit or try to commit suicide. It is more likely for a person who knows someone that has committed suicide to commit suicide. This is a strong problem personally to me and to many other people. This can be prevented easily; instead of walking by when someone is being bullied, you should help them. The authorities should take more action, legal action if necessary, against suicide due to any type of bullying or discrimination.
Kids every day go through being bullied constantly at school. For example, everyday children are bullied for the way they look, how quiet they are, the color of their skin, who they choose to be around and many more reasons. That all needs to be stopped before it becomes a bigger conflict. According to the article, “Family says teen who committed suicide was bullied”, “My brother is gone, we can’t take it back, but we can try and prevent it from happening to someone else’s kid.”, by his sister Lauren Bard. (Pelzer 35).This explains my topic in basic words. No one should be treated to the point where they wish to end their life. We should have better morals than that. This quote describes telling how some family members feel after bullying causes a part of their family to be gone forever. Most family and friends feel a sense of loss, hurt, and sadness. Signs of suicide are not even noticed because the ones having those thoughts keep it to themselves, as shown in the following quote. Bill Frye stated about his son that committed suicide due to bullying, “I really wasn’t expecting anything like this.” (Pelzer 31).This is a very true statement because when kids are having suicidal thoughts. They do not tell anyone about it, they want to make sure they get away with it because they do not want to deal with any more stress from bullying. They also do not want to tell anyone because they are scared of what people will say about how they feel.
Some people would say that this has no relation to child abuse or bullying in a way, and this may be true. People have different opinions, and some are based off of religion. Some could say if they let it go to the heart, it’s their fault if they commit suicide. This is not true to me. You could argue all day long about this topic but it would not matter because nobody’s opinion will always be correct. Yes, my opinion may not be accurate, but I know that finding a way to saving many lives during the duration of a year or years, is well worth the arguments and the time invested in it.
According to suicide.org, there are many people who decide to take their own life annually in the U.S.A. Approximately over 30,000 people commit suicide every year, and over 750,000 attempts every year [Caruso]. That number was surveyed in 2005 and the number has steadily increased from that number. You can tell in the numbers of average people who commit suicide due to bullying every year that the local and state government should put a stricter and better enforced set of rules/laws to stop the amount of deaths a year, There is no reason why schools would need to tell authorities about child abuse, but do not tell about bullying. They could both lead to; Depression. Suicide. This is the main reason I believe the way I do. We should all take the responsibility to help people in need. We may not know what they are going through, what they are thinking about or how they are feeling. So we need to put a halt to bullying in the schools altogether. Treat it as if it is child abuse, because in a way it is. No child needs to live daily hearing words that can harm them in any shape or form. So join me in the journey to new life, the journey to world-wide happiness and joy. Just by making a few changes in the way we do things in the school system, we could save so many lives. This may not seem effective to you, but think of it this way. If the child that is being bullied is yours, would you feel the same way I do?

Stoppler, Melissa C. "What are the effects of suicide?" 10 Feb. 2011.
Melissa Stoppler argues the effects that can occur from or lead to suicide. She claims that this is caused and cause emotional conflicts. She claims this by using accurate information to prove the causes of the people’s emotional problems. Some people are suicidal because of psychological problems. Stoppler's purpose again is to inform people of suicide so possibly less people will commit this.
Stoppler, Melissa C. "What are the signs and symptoms for suicide?" 10 Feb. 2011.
Melissa Stoppler tells the signs and symptoms are easily noticed if they are known. Stoppler discovers this by looking at statistics and things about suicide. Some signs are that they keep to their selves, or begin to become more clingy to people that they think love them. Again, Stoppler's purpose is to tell people about suicide.
Stoppler, Melissa C. "What is Suicide?" 10 Feb. 2011.
Melissa Stoppler argues the point of suicide in this article. She claims and tells what suicide really is, in basic words. It is basically when a person kills themselves by self-harm, medication, guns, and many other ways. She investigates this, I think by researching suicide cases, statistics, and things to that effect. Stoppler's purpose is to inform people about suicide in order to prevent it.
Swolowe, Jill, Liz McNeil, and Diane Clehane. "What Drove Her to Suicide?"
Jill Swolowe argues the story of a person who committed suicide, to tell some causes and reasons some people commit suicide. She claims that this story about Mary Kennedy committed suicide because of family and emotional complications. She first develops this claim, I think, by asking their family about her and her life story. She explores the challenges and problems of her life to tell a personal story of a suicide victim. Some victims suicide stories are similar to the Kennedy’s story while some are because of different reasons or by different ways of suicide. This is showing one of the few accounts of suicide. Jill Swolowe's purpose in writing this is to give a true account of suicide and why this occurs so often in today’s world.

Why I choose this topic
I choose this topic mainly to get a better understanding of why suicide is such a big situation happening in the United States but it seems no one will actully do something to stop it. There is certain questions I am using to base my blog off of. These are questions that everyone needs to think of and also think of all the people who have lost a life for bullying going unoticed. Stand up, Speak out, Save a life.
-Is Bullying more the cause of suicide or is there a worse cause?-Why do the ones who are suicidal and bullied keep it to theirselves till its too late?
-How can the ones who know someone being bullied help this person before it effects others as well as the one being hurt?
-Should there be stricter rules to prevent suicide from occuring in schools and any public place?
-What if people treated people the way they should be, would this sitiuation decrease?
